XC's Burns Named NECC Runner of the Week

MANSFIELD, Mass. – Mitchell College sophomore Grace Burns was named New England Collegiate Conference Runner of the Week for the sport of women's cross country, as announced by the league on Monday afternoon.

Burns was Mitchell's top runner at the USJ Blue Jay Invitational last week. She finished fifth overall and covered the 5K course in a career-best time of 24:58, helping the Mariners to a second-place finish in the field of three teams.

It marked the third straight week that a Mitchell runner has been recognized by the conference. Burns is also the first member of Mitchell's women's squad to earn runner of the week status since 2010.

Mitchell will next compete at the CCRI Tri-State Open on Saturday, October 5.
