Carney Nabs NECC Runner, Rookie of the Week Honors

MANSFIELD, Mass. – Mitchell College freshman Evan Carney was named New England Collegiate Conference Runner and Rookie of the Week for the sport of men's cross country, as announced by the league on Tuesday morning.

Carney clocked in with a season-best time of 29:14.97 over the 8k course at the James Earley Invitational last week. He finished 13th overall in the blue race and turned in the fastest time by any NECC performer on the course.

Carney becomes the second Mitchell runner—and the first since 2016—to earn both runner and rookie honors in the same week. It also marked the third time this season that he has garnered rookie honors (Sept. 16, Oct. 7).

Mitchell will wrap up the season at the NECC Championship on Saturday, October 26. The race will be held in Stanley Park in Westfield, Mass.
