XC Makes Season Debut at Mitchell Invite

WATERFORD, Conn. – Men's and women's cross country runners from both Mitchell College and the University of Saint Joseph competed at the Mitchell Invite on Saturday morning at Stenger Farm Park.

The event was the first of the season for both squads. USJ's David Kavanaugh coasted to the win in the men's race while Mitchell's Emma Tschaikowsky crossed the line first for the women.

Kavanaugh blazed the 5K course in 16:57, besting his nearest competitor by more than two minutes. Mitchell's Evan Carney posted a time of 19:10 to finish as runner-up. The two were the only runners in the field to record sub-20-minute times.

Things were a lot close on the women's side as Tschaikowsky edged USJ's Morgan Hall by 15 seconds. Tschaikowsky recorded a time of 22:57 over the 5K track while Hall came in at 23:12.
