XC Sweeps NECC Weekly Awards

MANSFIELD, Mass. – Three members of the Mitchell College men's and women's cross country teams were honored by the New England Collegiate Conference on Monday morning. 

On the men's side, freshman Liam Robb was named both NECC Runner and Rookie of the Week. The women's team had a pair of honorees, as sophomore Lara Jacobs repeated as NECC Runner of the Week while sophomore Abigail Rasmussen was tabbed NECC Rookie of the Week.

Jacobs earned the distinction for the third time in her career while the other two were first-time honorees. The trio posted Mitchell's top times at last weekend's Blue Jay Invitational while helping their squads to third-place finishes.

Robb finished fourth out of 36 runners in the men's 5k race, crossing the finish line in a time of 19:42. Jacobs and Rasmussen both grabbed podium spots in the women's 5k event, finishing second and third, respectively, in the field of 29. Jacobs crossed the tape in 22:30 while Rasmussen came in at 23:48. 

Mitchell will next compete at Elms College on Saturday, September 25 at 10 a.m.
