Mariners Race at Blazer Classic

CHICOPEE, Mass. -- The Mitchell College men's and women's cross country teams ran at the Elms College Blazer Classic on Saturday morning.

The Mariners finished fifth in the men's 8k event and sixth in the women's 6k race. It marked the first time this season that Mitchell has competed at an event with those distances, as the two previous events were 5k tune-ups. 

Evan Carney posted a top-10 finish to pace the men, completing the course in 32:41. Next across the finish were Liam Robb (33:44) and John Mateo (35:25), who placed 13th and 20th, respectively. Collin Rider (40:58) and Tom Martens (41:34) completed the scoring as the Mariners finished with 98 points.

Abigail Rasmussen turned in the best result for the women, finishing eighth in the field of 48 runners with a time of 28:15. Deasia Stevenson also contributed a solid effort in her collegiate debut, crossing the tape in 37:51. Jessica Williams (44:03), Priscilla Gumkowski (52:43) and Lexi Watson (52:44) rounded out the scoring as Mitchell finished with 130 points.

Mitchell will next run at the Tri-State Invitational on Saturday, October 2 at 10 a.m.
