Mariners Take Second at Mitchell Invitational

WATERFORD, Conn. --  The Mitchell College men's and women's cross country teams competed at the Mitchell Invitational on Friday afternoon at Stenger Farm Park in Waterford. 

Both teams finished second in a field that included the University of Saint Joseph and Dean College. USJ won both the men's and women's event. 

Mitchell freshman Albert Franck had a strong showing, finishing as runner up with a time of 16:27, while sophomore Collin Rider was fifth in a time of 17:44. Liam Robb (18:45) and Tim O'Hayre (18:55) secured spots in the top 10 on the men's side, finishing eighth and ninth respectively. Aldon Dawson finished 21st for the Mariners with a time of 22:58.

Braeden Laframboise of the University of Saint Joseph was the top overall finisher, completing the race in 15:26.

On the women's side Abby Rasmussen followed up her third place finish at the Blue Jay Invitational by matching that with a third place finish Friday. The sophomore was one of the two Mariners in the top 10 for women with a time of 22:07, while Aizhane Glenn (25:18) was seventh. Mauricea Francis and Chelsea Jackson also competed for the Mariners, crossing the finish line in 32:52 and 24:43.

The top overall female finisher was USJ sophomore Faith Shores, who blazed a pace of 21:26.

The Mitchell cross country teams will be back in action on Saturday, September 24, when they race at Elms College.
