Coach's Corner for April 15

Coach's Corner for April 15

Here's a quick update from this weekend's Yale Regatta:

In brief, we finished 10th out of 13 teams. We sailed consistently, and that to me is a clear indication of the growth we have made this year. If there is any aspect of this season's weekend regattas that has been so great to see, it has been our consistency in scores. We are sailing to our potential and not sailing great, then poorly, then great again.

Yale may have been our last weekend regatta of the spring season and I want to highlight one aspect of the event.

Alex Hering is our only senior on the team, and has been a stalwart of the team ever since he joined Mitchell College. I can honestly say that the team has been built around him these past four years. He has seen the growth and development of this team first hand, and has been a major part of it. In his last race, I am pleased to share that, when sailing with Chelsea Abbenante, he rounded the windward mark in first place. I am so happy for Alex to have that memory of his last collegiate regatta rounding the windward mark first - ahead of teams from Yale, Tufts, Conn, Dartmouth, and Brown.

The next very important event is on Wednesday, April 24 when we host the annual Thames River Regatta from 4-6 p.m. It is the same format as last year for those who have been around for a while. Just in case you have not, Conn, Coast Guard, Mitchell, UConn, and possibly Wesleyan and Johnson & Wales will be coming to Mitchell's Sailing Center for a mid-week regatta. We will sail a little farther out this year and have use of the dock next to us as well for viewing. The post-regatta meal will take place on the beach adjacent to our docks after the regatta is over. ALL SAILORS WILL BE SAILING IN THIS REGATTA.

In so many ways this has been a great season and I look forward to ending it as as a collective community of Mitchell College sailing members on April 24.

All the best,

Coach
