Mitchell drops two to AD3I foe UMaine- Presque Isle

NEW LONDON, CONN.- Mitchell faced the University of Maine - Presque Isle in their first Association of Division III Independents (AD3I) doubleheader on Thursday afternoon.  The Pequots lost the first game 9-1 in five innings and the second game 15-6 in six innings.   Mitchell drops to 0-6 so far this season and now 0-2 in AD3I.  UMPI continues their winning streak and are now 4-0 and 2-0 in AD3I play.

Mitchell's Liz Roy (Jewett City, CT) started things off in the first inning with a single and then was driven in by a double from freshman shortstop Sarah Krowlikowski (Bristol, CT).  The Owls answered in the top of the second inning with a solo homerun to left center.  The game remained at 1-1 until a rough fourth inning for the Pequots allowed the Owls three runs off of three hits and one error.  UMPI ended the game early with their six more hits in the fifth to score four additional runs. 

In game two, Mitchell unleashed five hits to score four runs in the first inning.  Senior Lauren Ferreira (Hyde Park, NY) roped a double to the fence in deep center to for 2 RBI's.  The Owls tallied two runs in the second on two hits.  Sophomore catcher Lindsay Donelin (Stonington, CT) led off the bottom of the inning for the Pequots with a double.  Mitchell senior Amanda Johnson (Pawcatuck, CT) hit a solo homerun in the fourth.  After four complete innings of play, Mitchell and UMPI were tied at six a piece.  The fifth inning was all Owls, with their seven runs on five hits.  The Owl offence proved to be too much for the Pequots, the game ended after six innings of play.

Mitchell will head to Newbury College on Saturday for a doubleheader at noon.  UMPI will travel to Briarcliffe College on Friday for a 1:00 PM start.
