MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Mitchell College softball team dropped a pair of games at the Snowbird Tournament on Monday, falling 12-6 to Albertus Magnus College and 5-2 to Gettysburg College.

Mitchell (1-3 overall) will next play games against Juniata College (9 a.m.) and Swarthmore College (11 a.m.) on Tuesday, March 12 at the Snowbird Tournament.

Game 1 – Albertus Magnus 12, Mitchell 6

Albertus Magnus (1-0 overall) scored five runs in the first inning and added five more in the second to take a commanding lead it would never relinquish. Isabel Lopez led the Falcons with four hits and three RBI while Brittney Urciuoli tossed a complete game and struck out six.

Trailing 10-0, Mitchell plated a run in the bottom of the second when junior Ariel Hallisey singled to right, stole second base, advanced to third on a wild pitch and later scored on an errant pitch. Hallisey finished the game with a pair of stolen bases and scored twice.

The Mariners put up four runs in the fifth inning, highlighted by an RBI single by sophomore Ashley Gladu that also went down as her first collegiate hit. Mitchell's final run came in the sixth when a two-out single by senior Tiffany Person scored freshman Alexandra Blanchette.

Freshman Kaisea Caramante made the start inside the circle for the Mariners but lasted only 1.1 innings. Junior Tricia Tomaselli threw 5.2 innings of relief and yielded only two runs (one earned) on eight hits and struck out seven.

Game 2 – Gettysburg 5, Mitchell 2

Mitchell fell behind 2-0 in the opening innings but rallied to tie the game in the fifth with a pair of runs. Hallisey entered the game as a pinch runner and stole second base before scoring on a fielding error. Junior Chelsea Arpin later followed with an RBI single to score pinch runner Shane'l Blount.

Gettysburg (1-4 overall) went ahead 4-2 in the sixth and tacked on an insurance run in the seventh. Mitchell had a chance to answer in the sixth but left the bases loaded.
