Softball Duo Earns NECC Honors


ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Two members of the Mitchell College softball team were recognized by the New England Collegiate Conference on Monday.

Sophomore Suzanne Vachon was named NECC Player of the Week while junior Italia Krick was tabbed NECC Rookie of the Week. The duo helped the Mariners post a 5-1 record last week that included wins over Dean College, Lyndon State College and Daniel Webster College.

Vachon, a shortstop and pitcher, batted .524 with a team-high nine RBI and 11 runs scored. She hit safely in all six games and finished with 11 hits for the week, including four doubles, a triple and a homer. In league action against Daniel Webster she went 4-for-7 with three doubles and three RBI and four stolen bases. In addition to her success at the plate, Vachon also went 2-0 with a 3.77 ERA in three appearances inside the circle, picking up wins against both Daniel Webster and Dean.

Krick, a first baseman, batted a team-high .563 with four doubles, six RBI and seven runs scored. She hit safely in all six games had three multi-hit games, and she plated runs in five of the six contests. In league action against Daniel Webster she went 3-for-7 with two doubles and two RBI as Mitchell swept the series. Krick slugged .813 for the week and had an on-base percentage of .682.

Mitchell (7-8 overall, 3-3 NECC) will next host Regis College on Saturday, April 8 at noon.
