Dominican Walks Off Against Softball

CLERMONT, Fla. -- A walk-off single pushed Dominican University (Ill.) to a 6-5 victory over the Mitchell College softball team on Sunday afternoon at The Spring Games.

Sydney Oatway went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI to lead Mitchell, which suffered its first setback of the season. Taylor Duchesneau took the loss in the circle, allowing six runs on 15 hits over 6.2 innings of work.

The Mariners trailed 1-0 until a three-run fourth inning put them on top. Alex Lopez tied things up at 1-1 with an RBI single, and Oatway put Mitchell in front with an RBI double. Oatway later scored on a wild pitch to give the Mariners a 3-1 advantage.

Mitchell padded the lead with a run in the fifth as Oatway knocked in another run with a single. The Stars, however, rallied for one run in the fifth and three more in the sixth to tie the game. After the leadoff hitter got on base in the seventh, Dominican sacrificed her into scoring position before a single up the middle by Alyssa Stuart scored the winning run.

Mitchell (2-1 overall) returns to action at The Spring Games on Monday, March 4 against York College at 1:45 p.m. and Alverno College at 4 p.m.
