Softball Splits on Final Day in Florida

CLERMONT, Fla. -- The Mitchell College softball team split a pair of games on its final day of play at The Spring Games on Wednesday afternoon.

The Mariners started the day with a 12-4 victory over Penn State New Kensington that went five innings. In the second game, which also lasted five innings, Mitchell dropped a 19-0 decision to Bridgewater College (Va.).

Suzanne Vachon picked up the win over the Nittany Lions, yielding four runs (three earned) on eight hits while fanning three to earn her second win of the season. Alex Lopez paced the offense with three hits and knocked in a pair of runs. Nene Capeles finished the game with five RBI.

Mitchell scored runs in each of the first four innings against PSNK and never trailed in the game. Vachon gave up a solo run in the third and three more in the fifth before securing the final out.

Mitchell (3-4 overall) will next host Northern Vermont-Lyndon for a doubleheader on Saturday, March 23 at noon.
