Softball's Nicynski Named NECC Player, Rookie of the Week

MARSHFIELD, Mass. – Mitchell College freshman Madison Nicynski was named New England Collegiate Conference Player and Rookie of the Week for the sport of softball, as announced by the league on Monday morning.

Nicynski batted .750 with two doubles, a homer, seven RBI and four runs scored last week as the Mariners swept a doubleheader from Northern Vermont University-Lyndon. In the opening game she went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and drove in three runs. She followed that up with a 3-for-4 effort in the nightcap in which she plated four runs and hit her first collegiate home run. She slugged 1.375 for the week and had an on-base percentage of .750.

Nicynski, an infielder, has started all nine games for the Mariners this season. She is batting .481 with eight RBI and six runs scored and is currently riding a five-game hitting streak.

Mitchell (5-4 overall) will next host Pine Manor College on Wednesday, March 27 at 3:00 p.m.
