Hirst Earns NECC Rookie Honors

MANSFIELD, Mass. – Mitchell College freshman Kacee Hirst was named New England Collegiate Conference Rookie of the Week for the sport of softball, as announced by the league on Monday morning.

Hirst got the starting nod in all four games for the Mariners last week and posted a 2-2 record with a 2.45 ERA. She tossed a complete game in her collegiate debut and helped her own cause with a two-run, walk-off single in a 6-5 victory over Cabrini University. The following day she earned her first career shutout against Rosemont College, allowing only three hits while fanning four in a 2-0 win.

Mitchell (2-2 overall), which is currently competing at The Spring Games in Clermont, Fla., returns to action on Tuesday, March 3 with games against Concordia College (Minn.) and Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.
