Softball's Lipsky Nabs NECC Weekly Honors

MANSFIELD, Mass. – Mitchell College freshman Katelyn Lipsky was named New England Collegiate Conference Rookie of the Week for the sport of softball, as announced by the league on Monday morning.

Lipsky, a pitcher, played a major role in Mitchell's sweep of Becker College last week, picking up wins in the first three games of the series and a save in the finale. It marked the third time this season that she's earned the award (March 15, 22).

Lipsky tossed a one-hitter and struck out nine in the series opener against Becker to record her first career shutout. She also went the distance in the third game, yielding two runs while once again fanning nine. In two relief stints she posted a win and a save, and for the series she gave up only four earned runs over 19.0 innings while striking out 27.

Lipsky has made 17 appearances this season and is 6-7 overall with a 5.35 ERA. She currently leads the NECC in both innings pitched (83.2) and strikeouts (83).

Mitchell (7-14 overall, 5-9 NECC), winners of four straight, will next play at New England College on Wednesday, April 28 at 3 p.m.
