Softball Drops Two at NEC

HENNIKER, N.H. – The Mitchell College softball team dropped a pair of games at New England College on Wednesday afternoon, losing by final scores of 5-1 and 9-0 in New England Collegiate Conference action.

Mitchell's lone run on the day came on a solo homer by Jossette Madison, the first of her collegiate career.

Mitchell (7-16 overall, 5-11 NECC) will next play at Elms College on Saturday, May 1 at 1 p.m.

Game 1 – NEC 5, Mitchell 1

The hosts grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first inning and never trailed. Madison's homer in the second cut the deficit in half, but NEC answered with a run in the bottom of the frame to go up 3-1.

The Pilgrims padded the lead with two runs in the fifth, capped by an RBI single by Destiny Helmedach. NEC starter Taylor Barbour didn't need the extra run support, as she yielded only three hits over 7.0 innings while striking out 10.

Mitchell starter Katelyn Lipsky allowed five runs on four hits and fanned four.

Game 2 – NEC 9, Mitchell 0 (5 innings)

The Grims got another stellar outing in the circle as Emily Farone limited the Mariners to only two hits over 5.0 scoreless frames. Maliah Pabellon singled in the first inning while Nene Capeles followed suit in the third.

NEC put up six runs in the second inning and added three more in the fourth. Helmedach had three hits in the contest while Destiny Cardona finished with a double and three RBI.

Lipsky took the loss in her second start of the day, allowing 11 hits while striking out two.
