Reynolds Named NECC Pitcher of the Week

MANSFIELD, Mass. – Mitchell College sophomore Emily Reynolds (Somers, Conn.) was named New England Collegiate Conference Pitcher of the Week for the sport of softball, as announced by the league on Monday morning.

Reynolds earned the honor for the second time this season (March 27) and it marks the fifth time this spring a Mitchell player has been named conference Pitcher of the Week.

Reynolds made three starts on the week for the Mariners, who posted a 4-2 overall record in doubleheaders against Salve Regina University, Purchase College, and Eastern Nazarene College. The sophomore finished the week with a 2-1 record and a 0.40 ERA across 17 and two third innings, allowing just one earned run, tallying 12 strikeouts to just two walks.

She began the week by tossing a seven-inning complete game in a 6-1 non-conference victory over Salve Regina, allowing six hits and no earned runs to go along with three strikeouts. Reynolds returned to the circle two days later, this time working a five-inning complete game shutout, surrendering just one hit and striking out five in a non-conference win against Purchase. The Mariners returned to NECC play on Saturday, and Reynolds allowed just one earned run in five and two third innings, yet Mitchell fell to Eastern Nazarene 8-6.

Through 19 starts this spring, Reynolds has logged a team-high 110.1 innings of work while posting a 9-8 record with an NECC leading 3.05 ERA. Her nine wins are third best in the conference, while she is fourth in strikeouts (52).

The Mariners (23-17 overall, 9-3 NECC) earned the second-seed in the upcoming New England Collegiate Conference tournament, which is slated to begin Friday, May 5, at top-seeded Eastern Nazarene College.
