Landry Sets Program All-Time Hit Record in Softball’s Split at JWU

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Junior Gemma Landry (Lewiston, ME) collected the 145th hit of her career with a first inning single during game one, breaking the record for the most hits in the Division III era of the Mitchell College softball program, as the Mariners split a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) South Division doubleheader with Johnson & Wales University on Thursday evening at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex.

The Wildcats tagged Katelyn Lipsky (Plantsville, Conn.) for 15 hits and nine runs and held off the Mariners 9-7 in the opener, before Mitchell broke out with 16 hits in game two, rolling over JWU 9-2 to secure the split.

The Mariners (14-16, 10-4 GNAC, 10-2 Division) will return home for a doubleheader on Saturday, April 27th, against Rivier University, which will also serve as senior day. The Wildcats (17-17, 11-3 GNAC, 9-3 Division) travel to Simmons University for a GNAC twin bill on Saturday, April 27th.

Game 1 – JWU 9, Mitchell 7

Landry led off the game with a single to become the program's all-time hit leader, and the junior then reached on a JWU error, which scored the first run of the game in the top of the second.
