JEFFREYS LEADS TEAM TO 76-61 VICTORY OVER DWC

NEW LONDON, CONN. - Senior guard Alva Jeffreys (Bridgeport, CT/Kolbe Cathedral) was the driving force behind Mitchell's 76-61 (5-10) win over the Eagles of Daniel Webster College (5-8) Thursday night at the Yarnall Athletic Center in New London, Conn.  With 29 total points, five of nine tries from behind the three-point arc and 10 of 20 from the field, Jeffreys shot 50 % from the field on the night. 

The second half was a complete turn around for the Pequots after going into the locker room at the first break down 27-32.  Daniel Webster lead the entire first half, Mitchell tied it up twice.  Mitchell took their first lead of the night five and a half minutes into the half when sophomore center Ashley Hansen (Clinton, CT/The Morgan School) hit two foul shots and followed with a quick jumper next time up the floor.  The Pequots gained momentum and were able to keep the advantage the rest of the game, leading by as many as 19 with just of six minutes remaining. 

Senior forward Shayna Barnes (Tarrytown, NY/Sleepy Hollow) finished the evening with a double-double pulling down a team leading 15 rebounds and scored 10 points for the Pequots.

Daniel Webster could not cash in on two monster rebounding performances from freshman forward Ashley Boyd (Hanson, MA /Whitman-Hanson HS) and junior center Erin Moseley (Sterling, MA /Billerica Memorial).  Boyd collected 19 rebounds while Moseley snatched 17 boards to accompany a team-high 22 points.

Mitchell College will return to action Sunday, January 28th versus Lincoln University with a 1:00 PM tip-off.  Daniel Webster will play next at home against Johnson & Wales Saturday January 27th at 1:00 PM.
