WBB Cruises to 68-32 Win Over Bay Path

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Mitchell College women's basketball team led from the opening seconds and cruised to its fourth straight win in a 68-32 victory over Bay Path College on Saturday afternoon at the Yarnall Athletic Center.

The Mariners (8-4 overall, 5-0 NECC) recorded season highs of 39-percent shooting from the field and 53-percent shooting from three-point range while holding the Wildcats (0-13 overall, 0-5 NECC) to a 23-percent effort. The 32 points were the fewest allowed by Mitchell in a game this season.

Senior Allison Peck and junior Bianca Young each finished with season highs of 18 points to lead the Mariners. All of Peck's points came from behind the arc where she went 6-for-9 in the contest, and she also handed out a team-high four assists. Young pulled down a season-high 11 rebounds to record her first double-double of the year.

Katie Begin and Justine Hook each finished with 10 points to lead Bay Path. Begin, who was 5-for-8 from the free throw line, added two rebounds, two assists and two steals. Hook led the Wildcats on the glass with six rebounds and finished with a pair of steals.

Mitchell scored on the opening possession of the game and never looked back. Peck was the spark in the early going, hitting her first four attempts from long range as the Mariners grabbed a 21-9 lead with just over five minutes played in the contest.

The Mariners shot 45 percent in the first half and took their biggest lead, 43-15, into the locker room at the break. Mitchell's defense held Bay Path without a field goal for the final 8:19 of the stanza, and the Mariners scored 19 of the final 20 points in the half. Peck and Young combined for 29 of Mitchell's 43 points over the first 20 minutes. Peck connected on her first five three-point attempts of the game and had as many points at the intermission as the Wildcats.

Mitchell was never threatened in the second half and saw its lead grow to as many as 38 points. Senior Marjorie Oliveira scored all eight of her points in the second half and tied a career high with six rebounds. Sophomore Kaylee Cerruto added eight points while leading rebounder Alix O'Neil finished with 11 boards.
