WBB Knocked Down at Lesley


CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Mitchell College women's basketball team dropped a 62-50 final at Lesley University on Monday night.

Senior Alix O'Neil led three Mariners in double figures with 17 points and added a team-high six steals. Mitchell (8-6 overall, 5-2 NECC) shot just 31 percent from the field and was outrebounded by a 48-21 margin. Lesley's Kaitlyn Wechsler led all scorers with 21 points.

Mitchell shot just 23 percent in the opening half and never held the lead. Lesley led by as many as 17 in the stanza and took a 32-21 advantage into the locker room at the break. The Mariners cut the deficit to eight with just over six minutes to play before the Lynx responded with a 9-0 run to seal the victory.

Mitchell's defense forced 29 turnovers and came away with a season-high 20 steals. Senior Allison Peck and sophomore Kaylee Cerruto each finished with 11 points for the Mariners. Peck also chipped in with five steals.

Mitchell will next play at Elms College on Thursday, January 27 at 7 p.m.
