2011 NECC WBB Championship Pairings Announced

ATTLEBORO, Mass. - Lesley University has claimed the top seed for the 2010-11 New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Women's Basketball Championship, which begins with quarterfinal match-ups on campus sites the evening of Tuesday, February 22. The Lynx (15-10 overall) earned the top spot for the tournament after posting a 13-3 conference record.  

Mitchell College (14-9 overall) claimed the second seed going 11-4 in conference play. Both Lesley and Mitchell have earned quarterfinal-round byes in the six-team tournament field.

Daniel Webster College (15-9 overall, 9-7 NECC) has earned the third seed, Newbury College (11-14, 9-7) will be the fourth seed, Becker College (10-14, 8-8) is the fifth seed and Elms College (9-16, 7-8) has claimed the sixth seed.

In quarterfinal-round action on Tuesday, February 22, #3 Daniel Webster will host #6 Elms in Nashua, N.H. at 7:00 p.m., while #4 Newbury will host #5 Becker on the campus of Hellenic College in Brookline, Mass. at 6:00 p.m.

NECC tiebreaker procedures were used to determine the #3 and #4 seeds, as Daniel Webster and Newbury finished with identical conference records of 9-7. Following the NECC tie-breaker procedures, Daniel Webster won the first criteria of head-to-head having defeated Newbury twice during the regular season on January 25th (70-53) and February 15th (73-41).

The semifinal and final rounds will be hosted by top-seeded Lesley University on Friday, February 25 and Saturday, February 26, respectively, in Quincy, Mass. on the campus of Eastern Nazarene College. In Friday's semifinals, Lesley will face the winner of the Newbury-Becker quarterfinal at 6:00 p.m., while Mitchell will meet the winner of the Daniel Webster-Elms quarterfinal at 8:00 p.m.

The semifinal winners will square off for the NECC Championship Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
