Teamwork Nets Alix a New Home

Senior Alix O'Neil, a member of the women's basketball and softball teams at Mitchell College, always knew that she could count on her teammates on the court. And now she knows that same bond extends beyond the lines of the playing fields.

A number of Mitchell student-athletes have recently volunteered time to help O'Neil and her family accomplish a long-desired dream. The family, which includes mother Jennifer and five children, was selected as future residents of a Habitat for Humanity home in New London. Jennifer is required to log 400 volunteer hours for the project, though up to half of that time can be performed by family and friends.

This is where the Mariners have pitched in to help. The women's basketball team worked at a different Habitat for Humanity house in January, and the softball team volunteered in February and worked on the actual O'Neil house. The men's lacrosse team is also planning on volunteering in March.

The entire story was told by Gavin Keefe in the March 9 edition of The Day.
