WBB Picks Up First Win Against Fisher


WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – Four players scored in double figures as the Mitchell College women's basketball team picked up its first win of the season by an 81-62 final over Fisher College on Saturday afternoon in the consolation game of the Saint Joseph College Tip Off Tournament.

Junior Kaylee Cerruto netted a career-high 27 points and was 7-of-10 from three-point range to lead the Mariners (1-2 overall). Senior Bianca Young recorded a double-double with season highs of 15 points and 13 rebounds while freshmen Sheanna James and Cara Begley added 12 and 10 points, respectively.

Mitchell's largest deficit in the first half came after Javanna Bernard buried a three-pointer that put Fisher (0-6 overall) up by 12 points at 30-18 with 5:29 remaining. The Mariners responded by closing the half on a 17-0 run to lead 35-30 at the break. Young scored eight points during the stretch while Cerruto added five, and Mitchell's defense caused six turnovers and held Fisher to 0-for-5 shooting in the span.

The Mariners pumped their lead to double digits four minutes into the second half and never looked back. Cerruto scored 20 points and went 6-for-7 from long range in the stanza to pace the Mitchell attack. She also handed out six assists in the win and was named to the All-Tournament Team.

Bernard led all scorers with 24 points while Pamala Bounekhoune added 23 for Fisher.

Mitchell will next play its home opener on Monday, November 21 against the Coast Guard Academy. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
