CHICOPEE, Mass. - Mitchell College suffered a 56-39 defeat at Elms College on Saturday afternoon in New England Collegiate Conference women's basketball action at Picknelly Arena.

Denisha Parks led all scorers with 21 points and pulled down a game-high 15 rebounds to pace the Blazers (11-8 overall, 10-2 NECC). Junior Kate Mulloy and freshman Amanda Garcia each netted nine points to lead the Mariners.

Elms scored 11 of the game's first 13 points and never trailed. The Mariners eventually cut the deficit to three on a lay-up by Mulloy, but the team went cold over the next four minutes and came up empty on their next eight possessions. Elms led 29-20 at the break thanks to seven first-half points from both Parks and Jenna Oyler.

The Blazers scored the first six points of the second half to push their lead to 15. Parks led the way with 14 points and 12 rebounds in the final stanza.

Mitchell shot just 22 percent for the contest and went 3-for-21 from three-point range. Senior Kaylee Cerruto finished with seven points while freshman Savannah Boyle had five off the bench.

Mitchell returns to action at Becker College on Tuesday, February 5 at 7 p.m.
