WBB's Cerruto, Garcia Earn NECC Honors

ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Two members of the Mitchell College women's basketball teams were recognized by the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) on Monday.

Senior guard Kaylee Cerruto and freshman forward Amanda Garcia were each named NECC All-Conference Honorable Mention. All awards were determined by a vote of the conference's head coaches.

Cerruto, who was also an honorable mention selection in 2011, started all 25 games this season and averaged a team-high 11.0 points and 3.6 assists per game. She ranked third in the NECC in total assists (89) and led the league in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.7). In 18 conference games she averaged 10.9 points per contest and scored in double figures eight times, including a season-high 28 points at Lesley University on December 4. 

Garcia enjoyed a fine first season for the Mariners, starting in all 25 games while averaging 10.6 points and a team-high 7.6 rebounds per contest. She recorded five of her six double-doubles in league play and averaged a team-best 11.0 points per game in NECC play. She scored in double figures in 11 out of 18 conference games, including a season-high 20 points against Bay Path College on January 31.

Mitchell (7-18 overall, 7-11 NECC) qualified for the NECC Championship for the fifth consecutive season. The Mariners were eliminated by second-seeded Elms College in the first round by a 72-48 final.
