WBB Falls at Pine Manor


CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Mitchell College women's basketball team dropped a 101-70 decision at Pine Manor College on Tuesday night at Brunelli Court.

Maria Vaughan scored a team-high 21 points while Ari DeJesus recorded her third straight double-double, scoring 17 points and collecting 12 rebounds, to lead the Gators. For Mitchell, sophomore Amanda Garcia recorded a double-double by notching career highs of 26 points and 17 rebounds. Classmate Savannah Boyle also tied a career high with 20 points for the Mariners, shooting 4-for-10 from beyond the three point line.

Pine Manor never trailed in the contest, opening the game with a 13-0 run that was capped by a lay-up by Jayva Johnson just 2:51 into the game. Johnson finished as one of six Pine Manor players in double figures with 13 points. She was joined by Sybil Lynch, who finished with 16 points, and Natasia Franklin and sophomore Khiyana Isaac, who finished with 14 and 10 points, respectively. 

PMC led by as many as 29 points in the first half and headed into the locker room with 50-25 halftime lead. 

DeJesus scored 14 of her 17 points following the half to help the Gators grow their lead to as many as 44 points with 7:14 remaining. Boyle's last three-pointer of the contest capped a 7-0 Mitchell run with 1:49 remaining, but from there the Gators closed out the Mariners for the 101-70 victory. 

Mitchell will be back in action on Thursday, November 21 when it hosts the University of Saint Joseph at 6 p.m.
