WBB Makes It Three Straight at Bay Path

HOLYOKE, Mass. - In a competitive New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) battle, the visiting Mariners of Mitchell College picked up a 64-58 win over the Wildcats of Bay Path College on Saturday afternoon at the Bartley Center.

Mitchell, which improved to 5-7 overall and 5-1 in league play, won for the third straight time out. Freshman forward Caycee Williams led the Mariners with a game-high 21 points while contributing seven rebounds, three assists and two blocks. Two other Mariners scored in double figures as sophomore guard Savannah Boyle added 12 points and classmate Amanda Garcia came off the bench to post 13 points and six rebounds.

Kayla Skiffington finished with a game-high 16 rebounds and netted 20 points to lead the Wildcats (3-10 overall, 2-4 NECC). Justine Hook hit four-three pointers and added 17 points while Aaliyah Gordon chipped in with 13 points and a game-high five steals.

A sluggish first half by the Wildcats yielded Mitchell a 31-17 lead at the intermission. The Wildcats outscored the Mariners by eight points (41-33) in the second half, but it wasn't enough to make up the deficit. Bay Path got as close as three at 59-56 when Hook buried a three-pointer with under a minute to play. Mitchell closed out the win by going 5-for-6 from the free throw line in the final minute.

Senior Kate Mulloy finished with seven points and 10 rebounds in the winning effort. Freshman Jessica Shepherd also chipped in with nine points.

Mitchell will next host Southern Vermont College on Tuesday, January 14 at 5:30 p.m.
