NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Mitchell College women's basketball team picked up its ninth straight victory by a 62-50 final over Wheelock College on Tuesday night in New England Collegiate Conference action at the Yarnall Athletic Center.

Sophomore Savannah Boyle led all scorers with 21 points and added a career-high 13 rebounds to record her second double-double of the season for the Mariners (11-7 overall, 11-1 NECC). Senior Kate Mulloy also pitched in with a double-double of her own, finishing with 14 points, 11 rebounds and five blocks.

Boyle had the hot hand for the Mariners in the first half, burying three treys in the opening 9:26. Mitchell later pushed the lead to double digits with 3:04 to go, though a pair of Wheelock free throws in the final seconds of the half made it 38-30 at the break. Boyle paced the Mariners with nine points in the stanza while Garvey led Wheelock with eight.

The margin hovered around eight for the first 10 minutes of the second half, until a 9-0 run gave Mitchell its largest lead of the contest at 51-35 with 9:22 to play. However, the Wildcats scored 11 of the next 13 points to bring it back to single digits, with Woods contributing seven points during the stretch.

The Mariners didn't let the lead dip below seven and quickly bumped it back to 12 behind a lay-up by Mulloy and a three by Boyle with 2:52 to go. Boyle finished with five three-pointers in the contest to tie a season high.
