Garcia's Double-Double Leads WBB to Win at Daniel Webster


NASHUA, N.H. -- The Mitchell College women's basketball team got back on the winning track on Tuesday night at Daniel Webster College, picking up a 68-58 victory in New England Collegiate Conference action at Mario Vagge Gymnasium.

Amanda Garcia posted game highs of 20 points and 15 rebounds to lead the Mariners. Dazjavia Williams added a season-high 12 points and eight boards while Savannah Boyle and Jessica Shepherd each scored in double figures with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Mitchell shot 40 percent from the floor and outscored Daniel Webster 13-0 at the free throw line.

Kayla Free paced the Eagles with 19 points while Ashley England chipped in with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Daniel Webster shot 31 percent as a squad but got to the charity stripe only five times and did not convert a single attempt.

After scoring the game's first five points, Daniel Webster held a slight lead through the opening 10 minutes. That all changed once Diamond Thomas tied the game at 17-17 with a layup at the 9:21 mark, and the Mariners later pulled in front for good on a three-pointer by Shepherd. By the end of the half Mitchell had built a 33-25 lead.

The Mariners enjoyed a comfortable lead for all of the second half, pumping the margin to as many as 16 with 4:52 to go. Garcia netted 14 of her 20 points and grabbed 10 of her 15 rebounds in the stanza while going 7-for-10 from the field.

Mitchell will next play at Wheelock College on Thursday, January 15 at 6 p.m.
