Women's Basketball Earns Fourth Seed For 2015 NECC Championship


ATTLEBORO, Mass. - Mitchell College has earned the fourth seed in the 2015 New England Collegiate Conference Women's Basketball Championship, which begins with first round play on Tuesday, February 24.

The Mariners (12-12 overall, 12-6 NECC) will host fifth-seeded Wheelock College (11-14 overall, 9-9 ECC) on Tuesday at 7 p.m. The winner will advance to the semifinals to take on top-seeded Regis College (20-5 overall, 18-0 NECC) on February 27.

Mitchell and Wheelock split a pair of regular season contests, each winning on the other's home floor. The Mariners took the first meeting on January 15 by a 69-60 final while the Wildcats triumphed 55-41 on February 11.

The other first round games feature seventh-seeded Daniel Webster College (7-18 overall, 7-11 NECC) at second-seeded Elms College (17-8 overall, 15-3 NECC) and sixth-seeded Newubry College (8-17 overall, 7-11 NECC) at third-seeded Southern Vermont College (15-10 overall, 13-5 NECC).

Regis earned the top seed in the tournament and will host the semifinals and finals on February 27-28. The winner of the tournament will earn the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Championship.
