Conn College Pushes Past WBB

NEW LONDON, Conn. — The Connecticut College women's basketball team improved its record to 10-1 with a 64-42 victory against Mitchell College at Luce Field House Tuesday night.

The Camels were paced by Mairead Hynes who poured in a game-high 20 points in a perfect shooting performance (8-for-8 from the field). Kylie Cauouette chipped in with 19 points, three rebounds and six steals from the backcourt, shooting 3-for-6 from long distance and 7-for-12 from the floor.

Liz Malman reached double figures with 11 points, four rebounds and three assists for the winning side. Willa McKinley added six points and five assists for Connecticut College.

Senior Diamond Thomas finished with a team-best 11 points and six assists to lead the Mariners (1-6 overall). Chelsea Newman chipped in with 10 points and eight rebounds in her season debut.

Hynes and Caouette combined for 22 points in the opening half as the Camels built a 19-12 lead after one quarter. Conn then outscored the Mariners 18-8 in the second quarter and ended the half on a 13-2 run. Caouette capped the rally by canning a triple with 1:27 to go that vaulted the Camels out to a 37-20 advantage at the break.

The Mariners hung around for a while, but Hynes proved to be a match-up problem all night. With 5:13 to play, the sophomore forward provided the hosts with a 60-35 lead when she stole a ball in transition and powered her way into the paint for an easy deuce.

The Camels (10-1 overall) improved to 6-0 on their home court.
