WBB Earns Third Seed in 2016 NECC Championship


ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Mitchell College will be the third seed in the 2016 New England Collegiate Conference Women's Basketball Championship and will host a first round game on Tuesday, February 23 against sixth-seeded Daniel Webster College.

The Mariners finished the regular season tied for second place in the NECC standings with a conference record of 14-4. The Eagles finished in a tie for fifth place with a record of 8-10. Mitchell won both regular season meetings this season and has won the last six games of the series. Daniel Webster, however, holds a 2-0 edge all-time in postseason contests.

Regis College is the tournament's top seed after finishing with an unblemished 18-0 record. The Pride received a first-round bye and will host the semifinals and title game on February 26 and 27.

The first round will feature three games on February 23. Wheelock College landed the second seed after an impressive 14-4 regular season. The Wildcats will host their first ever postseason game when they welcome seventh-seeded Newbury College. Fourth-seeded Elms College will also host fifth-seeded Southern Vermont College.

The winners of first round games will advance to the semifinals on Friday, February 26 at Regis. The championship game will be played at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 27.

Game 1: #5 Southern Vermont College at #4 Elms College – 7:00 p.m.
Game 2: #6 Daniel Webster College at #3 Mitchell College – 6:00 p.m.
Game 3: #7 Newbury College at #2 Wheelock College – 7:30 p.m.

Semifinals – Friday, February 26 (hosted by Regis College)
Game 4: Game 1 winner at #1 Regis College – 6:00 p.m.
Game 5: Game 2 winner vs. Game 3 winner – 8:00 p.m.

Championship – Saturday, February 27 (hosted by Regis College)
Game 6: Game 4 winner vs. Game 5 winner – 2:00 p.m.
