Dean Takes First Meeting Against WBB

NEW LONDON, Conn. – Dean College had four starters score in double figures in an 88-44 victory at Mitchell College on Thursday evening at the Yarnall Athletic Center.

The Bulldogs (9-4 overall) were led by 21 points from Chelsea Johnson while Fataya Larry added 16 points and a game-high 21 rebounds. Denisha Gardener chipped in with 17 points while Iindia Pina finished with 12 points, six assists and six steals.

Jessica Shepherd paced Mitchell (2-6 overall) with a season-high 17 points and added six rebounds. Tiana Edwards grabbed a team-high seven rebounds off the bench while Camille Staggers contributed five points.

Dean, which will join the New England Collegiate Conference next season, never trailed thanks to a quick start. The Bulldogs netted the first four points of the contest and led 21-7 after the first quarter. The margin grew in the second period as Gardener piled up 14 of her 21 points before intermission.

Mitchell's offense finally kicked into gear in the second half as Shepherd netted eight points in the third quarter alone. However, the Bulldogs still outscored the Mariners in each of the final two quarters en route to their second straight win over an NECC program.

Dean shot 44 percent from the field and held a 60-42 edge on the glass. Larry did her part by tying her season high in caroms while Gardener finished one board shy of her own double double.

Mitchell will next play at Trinity College on Saturday, December 10 at noon. Dean returns to action at home against Lesley University on Saturday at 1 p.m.
