Loss at Trinity Sends WBB Into Winter Break


HARTFORD – Courtney Erickson totaled 18 points, 13 rebounds and three steals to lead the Trinity College Bantams to an 83-48 win over the visiting Mitchell College Mariners in women's basketball action Saturday afternoon at Oosting Gymnasium.  

Trinity closes the fall semester with seven wins in a row after a season-opening loss, while the Mariners dropped to 2-7 overall.

Trinity went ahead 9-7 after a pair of free throws by Erica Junquet midway through the first quarter and never looked back. The Bantams opened up a double-digit lead at 23-11 when Kaitlin Lewis drilled a trey from the corner as time expired at the end of the opening frame, and upped their advantage to 20 points by halftime (45-25). Erickson had 14 points and nine boards while Junquet scored 10 points in the first half.

Trinity led by 25 after three quarters and outscored the Mariners 19-9 in the final stanza to win by its largest margin of the year. Junquet finished with 14 points, five assists and four rebounds while Rebecca Reifler added 10 points and four steals. Peace Kabari grabbed six rebounds and Sheena Landy dished five assists for the home team, which shot 80 percent from the foul line (24-30), held a 55-32 rebounding advantage and forced 28 turnovers.  

Allegra Jones paced Mitchell with 10 points, seven rebounds, and three steals while Kate McCormack notched six points, four rebounds, and four assists.

Mitchell will next host Connecticut College on Tuesday, January 3 at 6 p.m.
