WBB Cruises Past Bay Path

NEW LONDON, Conn. – Mitchell College powered to a 75-41 victory over Bay Path University on Tuesday night in New England Collegiate Conference women's basketball action at the Yarnall Athletic Center.

All 10 Mariners who dressed for the contest finished in the scoring column, led by 17 points off the bench by Allegra Jones. Francesca Pinard added a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds while Dejia Santana chipped in with 10 points, seven boards, two assists and a pair of blocks. Emmeline Bronson paced the Wildcats with 11 points.

Mitchell held Bay Path to just 17-percent shooting in the first half to take command. Pinard scored 11 points by intermission as the Mariners led 41-14 at the break.

The Wildcats narrowed the margin in the third quarter, outscoring the Mariners 14-9 to make it 50-28 heading into the final stanza. However, Jones scored nine of her 17 in the fourth quarter as Mitchell closed out the game with a 25-13 scoring edge in the period.

The Mariners finished with a season-high 26 assists on 30 field goals. Kate McCormack handed out seven assists to lead the way while Marissa Sweeney had five.

Bay Path shot 27 percent for the game and turned the ball over 24 times. Kaylee Herring finished with nine points and four rebounds while Shameria Armstead contributed eight points, three assists and two steals.

Mitchell (4-8 overall, 3-1 NECC) will next play at Elms College on Thursday, January 11 at 6 p.m. Bay Path (0-10 overall, 0-4 NECC) returns to action at home against Southern Vermont College on Thursday at 8 p.m.
