WBB Gets Back on Track at Bay Path

HOLYOKE, Mass. -- The Mitchell College women's basketball team picked up a 57-30 victory over Bay Path University on Tuesday night in New England Collegiate Conference action at the Bartley Center.

The Mariners controlled the glass (57-30) and got a big night from their bench to improve to 9-11 overall (8-3 NECC). The five Mitchell reserves, led by Jessica Lohneiss with a season-high 10 points, combined for 35 points and outscored the Wildcats by themselves. Dejia Santana finished with eight points and 10 rebounds in 16 minutes off the bench, while Ariana Carter added six points and nine boards. 

Kaylee Herring paced Bay Path (0-18 overall, 0-11 NECC) with nine points. The Wildcats turned the ball over 21 times and shot 25 percent from the field.

Mitchell's defense held Bay Path to single digits in three of the four quarters, beginning with a 15-4 margin in the opening quarter. The Mariners scored the first eight points of the contest and never trailed. Herring accounted for all four points for the Wildcats in the stanza.

Mitchell extended the lead to 29-11 by halftime, then gave up only 19 points over the final two quarters. The 30 points were the fewest allowed by the Mariners in a game this season.

Mitchell will next play at Wheelock College on Saturday, February 3 at 2 p.m.
