WBB Sails Past Bay Path

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Mitchell College women's basketball team overpowered Bay Path University for a 106-28 victory on Saturday afternoon in New England Collegiate Conference play at the Yarnall Athletic Center.

The Mariners shot a season-high 57 percent as a squad and had six players score in double figures. Kelsey Hernandez led all scorers with a season-high 21 points on 7-for-8 shooting that included a 3-for-4 effort from beyond the arc.

Mitchell jumped out to a 27-8 lead after one quarter and never looked back. The Mariners held the Wildcats to single digits in each of the first three quarters and only 10 points in the fourth.

Marissa Sweeney filled up the stat sheet with 11 points, game-high 13 rebounds, six assists and two steals. Amina Wiley finished one rebound shy of a double-double and had 16 points and three steals, and Le'Sandra Turner added 14 points and six assists.

Mitchell's bench outscored Bay Path's by a 38-0 margin. Ramzie Jones led the charge with a season-high 18 points while Dejia Santana added 10.

Emmeline Bronson paced the Wildcats with 13 points while Jo Nazario chipped in nine.

Mitchell (12-8 overall, 11-2 NECC) will next play at Elms College on Tuesday, February 5 at 7 p.m. Bay Path (1-16 overall, 0-12 NECC) returns to action at home against Newbury College on Tuesday at 8 p.m.
