WBB Nabs First Win of the Season vs. Fisher

NEW LONDON, Conn. – Mitchell College held on for a 63-58 victory over Fisher College on Monday night in non-conference women's basketball action at the Yarnall Athletic Center.

Amina Wiley paved the way for the Mariners with a double-double of 15 points and 12 rebounds to go with four steals and a block. Kelsey Hernandez also scored in double figures with 12 points. Fisher's Vivian Lara led all scorers with 18 points and grabbed 10 boards while Jenny-Lynn Eggers added 13 points and eight rebounds.

The Mariners outscored the Falcons in each of the first three quarters and led by as many as 17 with 7:12 remaining in the contest. Fisher cut the deficit back to single digits at the 2:53 mark on a three by Lara and eventually made it a one-possession game by the final minute. Another Lara triple, this time with 21 ticks left on the clock, whittled the margin to 61-58. However, Inanna Rice was fouled on Mitchell's ensuing possession and made one of two from the line to seal the victory.

Mitchell shot just 32 percent from the floor but made up for it by making 44 trips to the line. The Mariners outscored the Falcons 25-11 at the charity stripe on the night, with Hernandez going 6-for-8 to lead the charge.

Rice finished with nine points and five rebounds in 25 minutes off the bench. Mitchell's reserves outscored Fisher's by a 17-12 tally.

Mitchell (1-1 overall) will next play at Wesleyan University on Friday, November 22 at 6 p.m. Fisher (4-4 overall) returns to action at Regis College on Wednesday, November 20 at 6 p.m.
