WBB Falls to Wellesley in Courtyard Consolation Game

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. -- Mitchell College fell by a 43-33 final to Wellesley College in Saturday's consolation game of the Courtyard Tournament at Wesleyan University's Silloway Gymnasium.

The Mariners led 23-17 at halftime but shot just 3-for-18 in the second half. The Blue took the lead for good midway through the third quarter and never looked back, limiting the Mariners to only three points in the final stanza.

Amina Wiley, who was named to the all-tournament team, paced Mitchell with game highs of 12 points and 17 rebounds and also added two steals and a pair of blocks. Jiyun Chae led Wellesley with 11 points and was the only other player to score in double figures.

Inanna Rice netted all five of her points in the first 10 minutes of the contest as the Mariners trailed 11-10 after one. In the second quarter, Mitchell pulled in front at the 7:28 mark thanks to a layup by Wiley, who finished with six points in the quarter.

The Mariners shot 29 percent for the game and didn't make a three-point field goal (0-for-9) for the first time this season. 

Mitchell (1-3 overall) will next host Saint Joseph University on Tuesday, November 26 at 4 p.m.
