WBB Coasts to Victory at Lesley

MEDFORD, Mass. -- The Mitchell College women's basketball team ran away with 74-33 victory over Lesley University on Tuesday night in New England Collegiate Conference action at Medford High School.

The Mariners shot 42 percent from the floor and turned the ball over a season-low 12 times en route to their largest margin of victory of the season. Four starters scored in double digits while the bench combined for 21 points. Le'Sandra Turner filled up the stat sheet with 15 points, eight rebounds, six assists and three steals. Kelsey Hernandez added 12 points while Amina Wiley and Sam McKenna each contributed 10.

Lesley's Dakota Jones led all scorers with 17 points and also grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds to go with three steals. The rest of the Lynx combined to shoot 6-for-38 in the contest.

Mitchell led 19-10 after the opening period but broke the game open in the second quarter. Wiley scored six points in the stanza as the visitors pumped the margin to double digits and never looked back. The Mariners, who limited the Lynx to only six second-quarter points, led 40-16 at the break.

The lead continued to grow in the second half, peaking at 68-25 midway through the fourth quarter following a free throw by Ramzie Jones. Jones and Ariana Carter scored five points apiece to lead the Mitchell reserves. 

Mitchell (8-8 overall, 4-2 NECC) will next play at Elms College on Saturday, January 25 at 1 p.m.
