WBB Sprints Past Bay Path

NEW LONDON, Conn. – Mitchell College was in control the entire way in an 82-37 victory over Bay Path University on Tuesday night in New England Collegiate Conference women's basketball action at the Yarnall Athletic Center.

Jessica Lohneiss scored a season-high 15 points off the bench to lead a balanced scoring attack for the Mariners, who improved to 10-8 overall and 6-2 in league play. Kelsey Hernandez added 13 points—all in the first half—while Sam McKenna chipped in 11 and Jordan Lohneiss tied a career high with 10.

Emmeline Bronson netted a game-high 23 points on 9-for-28 shooting to pace Bay Path (2-14 overall, 1-7 NECC). She also finished with six rebounds and three assists. Heaven Rodriguez added 10 points and three assists while Nyasia Reeves had four points and three rebounds.

Mitchell opened the game with a 12-2 run and led by double digits for the final 36 minutes of the contest. Hernandez had the hot hand in the first quarter, drilling a pair of three-pointers en route to 10 points in the stanza.

The Mariners led 27-6 heading into the second quarter, and Jessica Lohneiss continued the barrage from deep with a trio of three-pointers before intermission. Hernandez also added another trey and led all scorers with 13 points at the break.

Mitchell's bench saw a healthy amount of action in the second half as the lead ballooned to as much as 50. The reserves combined for 48 points and 25 rebounds on the night. Ramzie Jones finished with seven points, four steals and two blocks while Ariana Carter recorded five boards and three swats.   

Mitchell will next play at Pine Manor College on Saturday, February 1 at 1 p.m. Bay Path returns to action at New England College on Saturday at 5 p.m.
