Turner's Triple-Double Leads WBB Past Lesley

NEW LONDON, Conn. – Mitchell College coasted to an 89-34 victory over Lesley University on Tuesday night in a New England Collegiate Conference match-up at the Yarnall Athletic Center.

The Mariners improved to 12-8 overall (8-2 NECC) and extended their winning streak to five games. Le'Sandra Turner set the tone with a triple-double of 16 points, 12 rebounds and a career-high 11 assists. Sam McKenna and Ramzie Jones also chipped in 10 points apiece.

Dakota Jones led all scorers with 28 points and grabbed a game-high 18 rebounds to pace Lesley. The Lynx dropped to 0-15 overall (0-11 NECC).

Mitchell never trailed in the contest and led 26-2 after the opening quarter. Turner had eight points in the stanza as the Mariners shot 63 percent as a squad. The margin continued to grow in the second period as McKenna led the way with eight points, and the Lynx trailed 53-10 at intermission.

The only drama in the second half was if Turner—who had 10 points, eight boards and eight assists at the break—would notch the triple-double. After pulling down her 10th rebound early in the fourth quarter, she was still two assists shy of the feat. She later made a steal with 5:07 to go and fed Destiny Allen for an easy. Minutes later she found Jordan Lohneiss under the basket for an easy two and her 10th assist of the night.

The Mariners, who shot 49 percent for the game, held a commanding advantage in nearly every category: rebounding (51-34), fast-break points (34-0), bench points (40-0), second-chance points (23-9) and points off turnovers (33-4). All 12 Mitchell players who saw action found the scoring column.

Mitchell will next play at Pine Manor College on Thursday, February 13 at 6 p.m. Lesley returns to action at Dean College on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
