WBB Doubles Up On Dean

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Mitchell College women's basketball team cruised to a 76-36 victory over Dean College on Wednesday night in non-conference action at the Yarnall Athletic Center.

The Mariners improved to 2-0 overall for the first time since the 2006-07 season. Amina WileyAlexia Watson and Yasmine Santos led a balanced offensive attack with 14 points apiece, and Sam McKenna added 11 points and three steals off the bench. Wiley also pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds to notch her second double-double of the season.

Shania Springer paced Dean (1-1 overall) with 18 points while Alexah Potter grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds.

Mitchell held a 13-12 lead after the first quarter but started pulling away in the second. The Mariners limited the Bulldogs to only one field goal and seven total points in the period, opening up a 44-19 lead by intermission.

The second half was much of the same, as Mitchell outscored the visitors 25-10 in the third quarter and 17-7 in the fourth. The Mariners shot 40 percent for the game and held a 49-41 edge on the glass. Mitchell also forced 26 turnovers and held a commanding 30-2 advantage in points off turnovers.

Le'Sandra Turner filled out the stat sheet with eight points, eight assists, five rebounds and three steals. 

Mitchell will next play at UMass Boston on Saturday, November 13 at 1 p.m.
