WBB Bounces Back at UMF

FARMINGTON, Maine – The Mitchell College women's basketball team got back on the winning track on Sunday afternoon, defeating the University of Maine at Farmington by a 76-47 final in a non-conference tilt at Dearborn Gymnasium.

Amina Wiley led all scorers with 28 points on 13-for-17 shooting and grabbed 10 rebounds, and Le'Sandra Turner and Sam McKenna chipped in 10 points apiece. Turner finished with eight rebounds, eight assist and six steals while McKenna added eight rebounds, four assists and four steals.

Alex Bessey paced the Beavers (9-9 overall) with 12 points.

Mitchell fell behind 10-4 at the start but worked its way into the lead by the end of the first quarter. The Mariners closed the period with a 10-2 run to lead 19-14 after 10 minutes.

Mitchell dominated the second quarter as Wiley outscored the Beavers by herself. She netted seven of her team's 20 points in the stanza, and Mitchell limited Farmington to only two field goals en route to a 39-19 lead at the break.

The Mariners expanded the lead in the third quarter, outscoring their hosts by a 22-11 margin. Wiley didn't miss a shot in the quarter while adding nine points to her stat line.

In the fourth, Mitchell led by as many as 33 and cruised to the finish. The Mariners held a 56-35 advantage on the glass that included 20 offensive rebounds, six of which came from Wiley.

Mitchell (8-11 overall) will next play at New England College on Saturday, February 12 at 1 p.m.
