WBB Falls in Season Opener at Trinity

HARTFORD, Conn. – The Mitchell College women's basketball team fell in their season opening game on the road Friday night, losing to Trinity College 64-39 in non-conference action at Oosting Gymnasium.

Bria Fuller scored a game-high 11 points for Trinity, who improved to 1-0 on the season. Hannah Marzo joined her in double-figures, scoring 10 points of her own.

Mitchell junior Yasmine Santos (Pawtucket, R.I.) led the Mariners with 10 points, while senior Amina Wiley (New Rochelle, N.Y.) added nine points, five rebounds, and two blocks.

The Bantams came out strong, establishing early control by scoring the first 15 points of the contest. Mitchell finally got on the board when Wiley completed a layup with 3:11 reaming in the first quarter, also drawing the foul.

Trinity outscored the Mariners 22-8 in the first quarter, and went on to carry a 34-16 lead into the half. Mitchell was again held to just eight points in the third quarter before outscoring the Bantams 15-8 in the final frame.

The Mariners struggled to find their shooting rhythm, logging just a 26.9% clip on the night. It was a similar story from long range, as the Mitchell women were just 1-11 from beyond the arc.

Trinity shot 43.9% from the field, but was only 5-20 from long range and 60% from the free throw line. The Mariners excelled at the charity stripe, making 10 of 12 shots. Trinity finished with 24 turnovers to just 23 for Mitchell.

Mitchell (0-1) will take to the court next for their home opener on Monday, November 14th, when they host the City College of New York (CCNY) at 6:00 pm. The Bantams (1-0), meanwhile, are back in action on Wednesday, November 16th, when they host Eastern Connecticut State University at 7:00 pm.
