Women's Basketball Sweep Weekly Conference Awards

MANSFIELD, Mass. – Two members of the Mitchell College women's basketball team were honored by the New England Collegiate Conference on Monday.

Forward Amina Wiley (New Rochelle, N.Y.) was named NECC Player of the Week while freshman guard Jamya Beddoe (New London, Conn.) was tabbed NECC Rookie of the Week. Wiley earned the honor for the second time this season (Nov. 28) while Beddoe was recognized for the first time. 

Wiley averaged 20.0 points and 13.5 rebounds, while shooting 58.1% from the floor as the Mariners went 0-2, including a loss to Division I Bryant University to close out the semester. She exploded for 32 points and 25 rebounds in a one point loss on the road Saturday at Albertus Magnus. Both figures were season-best numbers. She then closed the week with eight points and a pair of rebounds against Bryant. Wiley also had three steals against Albertus and averaged 28.5 minutes per contest. 

Beddoe averaged six points across two games on the week, notching a career high of nine on the road against Albertus Magnus. 

Wiley has played in all 10 games this season for Mitchell and leads the NECC in rebounding (12.4 rpg), is third in scroing (16.1 ppg), and is second in field goal percentage (51.6%). Beddoe has played in eight of 10 games for the Mariners, and is avergaing three points per contest during her freshman campaign. 

The Mariners (3-7) return to action on Friday, December 30th, when they face Fitchburg State in Danbury at the Western Connecticut St. Tip-Off.
