McKenna Named NECC Player of the Week

MANSFIELD, Mass. – Mitchell College senior Sam McKenna (Millbrook, N.Y.) was named New England Collegiate Conference Player of the Week for the sport of women's basketball, as announced by the league on Monday morning. It marks the second time this season that McKenna has earned Player of the Week honors (1/3).

McKenna produced the most prolific offensive week in her colliegate career, averaging 32.5 points and 4.5 assists per game to lead the Mitchell women's basketball team to a 2-0 record on the week. The senior shot 49% from the floor, 41.2% from three point range, and 75% from the free throw line. She also averaged 3.5 rebounds and 2.5 steals per game in wins over Anna Maria College and New England College.

McKenna began the week by pouring in a career-high 36 points, including eight three pointers, as the Mariners rolled over the AMCATS 89-68. She followed this up in the team's return to conference play, finishing with 29 points and seven assists in an 84-56 rout of New England College.

Winners in nine of their last 11 games, the Mariners (12-9 overall, 4-0 NECC) will return to action on Tuesday, February 7th, when they travel to Brookline, Massachusetts for a non-conference meeting with Fisher College.
