Women’s Basketball Can’t Match Emerson

NORTH DARTOUTH, Mass. – The Mitchell College women's basketball team concluded their weekend by falling to Emerson College 103-69 in a non-conference contest to close out the Lafrance Hospitality Tournament hosted by UMass Dartmouth.

The Lions led wire to wire, shooting 64.7% overall from the floor on the afternoon, while outscoring the Mariners 28-11 in the opening quarter. Mitchell battled back, as senior Yasmine Santos (Pawtucket, R.I) poured in 16 points in the second quarter, yet Emerson held a 53-34 edge at halftime.

Santos finished with her third double-double in as many games, pouring in a season-high 26 points and adding 12 rebounds. Fellow senior Jermia Dumas (Bridgeport, Conn.) added 12 points and four steals, while Lyliana Daly (Englewood, N.J.) chipped in 11 points and four rebounds.

Emerson shot 64.7% from the floor, outrebounded the Mariners 44-30, and held a 25-8 edge in assists handed out. The Lions were also able to dominate down low, outscoring Mitchell 60-30 in the paint.

Bri Frongillo paced the Emerson offense, finishing with 23 points on 9-14 shooting with five assists. Olivia Deslaurier added 22 points, four rebounds, and four assists, while Ella Bushee (13 points), and Charlotte Levison (10 points, seven rebounds) joined her in double-figures scoring.

The Mariners (1-2, 0-0 GNAC) will play one more game before the Thanksgiving break, hosting Western Connecticut State University in non-conference action on Wednesday, November 22nd, at 1:00 pm. The Lions (3-2, 0-0 NEWMAC) host Endicott College on Tuesday, November 21st.
