Lasers Hand Women’s Basketball First GNAC Loss of the Season

NEW LONDON, Conn. – Senior Yasmine Sanots (Pawtucket, R.I.) poured in a collegiate career-high 37 points for the Mitchell College women's basketball team on Saturday afternoon, but the Mariners fell 78-64 against Lasell University at the Yarnall Athletic Center.

Santos added 10 rebounds and four steals, notching her fifth double-double in six games to begin the season. Seniors Jermia Dumas (Bridgeport, Conn.) and Lyliana Daly (Englewood, N.J.) each added nine points for the Mariners, while freshman Inonda Peterson (Houston, TX) chipped in three points, six rebounds, four assists, and three steals.

The Mariners trailed by just seven points at the half, but a layup by Blaize Mack made it a 10-point game five minutes into the third quarter. Lasell would continue to build upon their lead throughout the second half, watching it grow to as large as 18 points in the waning minutes of the contest. Mitchell shot just 39.4% from the floor, 16.7% from three-point territory, and 50% from the free throw line.

Kiara Cerruti paced the Lasers with a team-high 18 points. Blaize Mack recorded a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds, while Laura Johnson and Shirle Major poured in 10 points apiece. Mia Sullivan-Sanders added 11 points and 12 rebounds off the bench.

The Mariners (2-4, 0-1 GNAC) will look to bounce back when they play their final home game of the semester on Thursday, December 7th, a non-conference contest against Bowdoin College. Winners of two straight, the Lasers (4-3, 1-0 GNAC) will look to make it three in a row when they play at Wellesley College on Tuesday, December 5th.
